The one sentence that will get you funding.

A few words are worth... millions in funding. Or at least they could be.

I was walking with my friend David the other day. There was a lull in conversation and we were in a crowded area.

He took the opportunity and loudly stated:

“This is the worst Tinder date I’ve ever been on!”

I immediately turned red in the face, yet couldn’t help burst out laughing.

So embarrassing.

But! His comment is a great example of One-Liners.

Hear me out:

You want to have a One-Liner that is able to accomplish three things:

  1. Transition

  2. Extreme Clarity

  3. Sexiness (aesthetics)

David’s comment did these.

He transitioned us from a lull in conversation (our problem) into full belly laughs (solution).

His intention was extremely clear. To me, it was comedic relief. To the public, it was that the “date” wasn’t going well (This is a friend and one of the funniest things he’s ever done).

The sexiness (aesthetics) is that it stood alone. The comment wasn’t cluttered through conversation or lost in the echo of the crowd. Talk about successful comedic timing.

Your deck is an extension of your brand and company.

So for you:

  1. Transition: From the “Set-Up” to the “Pay-Off”. Your slide will state how you’re solving your problem.

  2. Extreme Clarity: Copywriting is of the essence. You want to make sure your investors aren’t questioning your “what” ever again. This is your time to shine.

  3. Sexiness (aesthetics): The slide will only have this one statement on it. Make it eye catching so that both the skimmer and deep dive readers will leave having at least read this.

Here are some of our favorite examples:

Clean. Concise. And they transition you from problem to solution fast.

Hopefully your One-Liner is less embarrassing than David’s, but just as powerful.

See you next week for your check up 💎
