The 5 things your deck needs to get a follow up meeting.

Feedback is a slippery slope. Let's hone in on what's really needed.

Updating a resume is tough.

Even worse, asking for feedback is a landmine.

Everyone has a different opinion, a different style, and they look from a different perspective.

When I ask the people I trust to look it over I get… so. much. feedback.

This is our #1 occupational hazard.

We call it Feedback Overload.

Resumes and Pitch Decks alike are never going to be perfect.

They give a brief overview of you, or your business, and instill a deep curiosity in the reader to come back and ask more.

Feedback needs to be looked at through a lens.

Who is the reader, what is their objective, background and what interest do they have in you/your company.

AKA your finance savvy dad is going to give you different feedback than your future design director employer.

Here at Deck Doctors, we have propped up some bumpers to help ensure your deck is driving home that interest factor.

Storytelling 101: The Interest Factor Elements.

  • A Relatable Protagonist: This can be you, a new technology, or an uncommon belief. Regardless, your protagonist is on a mission to create change. Here you need to highlight your strengths, acknowledge you weaknesses and really drive home your why.

Protagonist Set Up: HappyPillar uses a common understanding to drive home their mission and uncommon belief that behavioral therapy can be accessible and inexpensive.

  • A Special Power: Here is your time to shine, to pique some serious interest. Why are you different then the rest? Do you have a super power no one else in the market place yet does?

Gleam follows their one-liner with their super power. A quick glance at why they will succeed before diving in deep. This helps paint a picture

  • A Story Arc: Every good story has a beginning, middle and an end. Your pitch deck is your company's story, so treat it like such! Don’t over do it, be clear and just give the people what they want!

  • Suspense: The best story arc leverages suspense. Picture it like this: You distill down the problems you see in the market, talk about its effects and how everyone is hurting from it. Take your time, really dive into it. Then- BOOM- You and your superpower are here to fix that!

  • The Coveted “Aha Moment”: You’re going to follow your suspense with your “aha” moment, or what we call the gut punch. It's the final moment where investors say “okay, you’ve convinced me.” Show your value proposition & watch investors faces light up like they're saying “ah, yes, now we’re speaking the same language.”

Modos used this moment to show how they are already making an impact but then highlighting all their growth streams. Genius.

Clearly, a lot goes into pitch decks, but just remember:

Decks are a means into a bigger conversation.

Use it like such!
